Get your Driver Qualification Card (DQC) and drive professionally.
If you passed your car driving test (Category B) after 1st January 1997 and wish to drive an HGV professionally for a living, you must obtain the Initial Driver CPC. This involves passing two extra tests: Module 2 (Case Studies) and Module 4 (Practical Demonstration).
Once passed, you will receive your Driver Qualification Card (DQC), which you must carry with you whenever you are driving professionally.

First aid knowledge and what to do in case of an accident.
Anyone driving a vehicle over 3.5 tonnes for "hire or reward" (paid work). There are exemptions for emergency services, military, and personal use (non-commercial).
Once you have your DQC, it is valid for 5 years. To keep it, you must complete 35 hours of "Periodic Training" (classroom based) every 5 years. We currently focus on Initial CPC (Mod 4) but can advise on periodic providers.
You have "Grandfather Rights" (Acquired Rights). You do not need to take the Initial CPC (Mod 2 & 4). Instead, you need to complete 35 hours of Periodic Training to get your first card.
